Celebrate freedom ??

Independence Day.

The 4th of July.

What does that mean to you ?

 

 

A quick Google search brought up the following answers -

You don’t answer to someone else.

 

You determine your own schedule, values, and priorities.

 

You stand alone.

 

Being able to depend upon yourself.

 

Not being a victim anymore.

 

Doing things without manipulation.

 

Self-reliance.

 

Living a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle.

 

The ability to say no.

 

Not having to ask for permission to live my life.

 

Choices.

 

Did you read the list ?  Do you agree ?

I would assume that most people reading this enjoy all of those freedoms ?

I know I do.

I don't think we generally think about how lucky we are - and hopefully, on this 4th of July, as we celebrate our freedom, we do spend a moment or two thinking about what that means.

 

I love how patriotic everyone becomes on this day - the parades, the waving of flags, the celebrating, the fireworks, the red white and blue.

 

 

 

I can't help thinking, though, on this and any other holiday, of those who do not have the same freedoms as us.

Those in countries where the way they live is dictated to them, where some are not deemed worthy, for one reason or other.

 

Countries where women are told what they can and cannot do.

Countries where racism is still rife.

Countries where families are only allowed to have one child.

Countries where those born with disabilities are abandoned at birth.

 

Please - on this Independence Day - stop - look around you - and truly appreciate the life you live.  It doesn't matter who you are - whether you are rich, poor, young, old, black, white, male or female - the life you are living is SO much better than the lives of a huge portion of this world we live in.

 

Think about the list up above again.

The one in red and blue.

How many of those freedoms do you think you would enjoy if you were an orphan, living in an orphanage.

Abandoned.

Unloved.

 

How about if you are an orphan born with a disability ?

Born to a family in a country where the disabled are frowned upon.

Seen as bad luck.

Where there are no therapists, no special equipment, no schooling, no medical services.

What can a family do, when told that their longed for baby is "broken" ?

When the doctors tell them there is no hope, to leave the baby in the hospital, to go home and have another, hopefully "normal" baby ?

 

So many babies left to be cared for by the state.

SO many children, growing up in orphanages, through no fault of their own.

Too many children living with NO freedom whatsoever.

 

They will always answer to someone else.

They will never determine their own schedule, values, and priorities.

They will never stand alone.

They will never be able to depend upon their self.

They will always be a victim.

They will forever do things with manipulation.

The will never have any self-reliance.

They will never live a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle.

They will never have the ability to say no.

They will always have to ask for permission to live their life.

They will never have a choice in anything. 

 

TOO many children without a future, merely because they were born different.

Do you know anyone with a disability ?

Anyone who uses a wheelchair ?

Anyone with autism ?
Anyone with Down Syndrome ?

Anyone with cerebral palsy ?

Anyone with a limb difference ?

Anyone with a cleft palate ?

Anyone with any difference whatsoever ?

 

If you do - whether they are a child or grown - did they see therapists ?

Physical, occupational, speech ?
Did they go to school, and get an appropriate education ?

Did they receive special equipment ?

Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, hearing aids, glasses, feeding tubes, communication devices  ?

Did they see doctors ?

Get medications ?

Did they/do they get everything they need in order to lead their lives ?

To be FREE ??

 

Listed below are the names of many many children.

They are not their real names, they are aliases, given them in order to protect their privacy.

These children all live in orphanages around the world.

They are all available for adoption, and they all have adoption grants through Reece's Rainbow.

 

Unfortunately, they all have less than $100 in their grants.

Some, who are newly listed as available for adoption, have ZERO in their grants.

 

Their grants are monies that will be given to the family that steps forward to adopt them.

International adoption is crazy expensive, so Reece's Rainbow raises grants in order to offset the huge expense of giving these children freedom.

 

On this one day, on this special celebration of freedom - can you help ?
You don't have to adopt to make a difference.

Could you pick a child from the list below, click on their name, read their profile, look at their photo, and maybe share them ?

Maybe donate a few dollars, in the name of freedom, to their adoption grant ?

5K for Ebony and Gideon

Ok - firstly, I KNOW I have been the worlds worst blogger recently. I KNOW there has been huge movement on the zeros, and I KNOW I need to update SOON.

 

However - I have a pretty good excuse or two. Or three.  ;)

 

Firstly - after 13 years as a daycare provider, I have finally got to the point where all of my clients are teachers, so I have been able to take the whole summer off this year !!  In order to do this, as well as go on vacation, I have been busy selling stuff on eBay, spending my evenings photographing, editing, listing, packaging etc etc etc. 

 

Secondly - we were on vacation, and I was incredibly proud of myself, for spending as little time as possible online while at Disney World !

 

Thirdly - the day after we got home from vacation, my mom arrived from England for a 3 week visit. 

We've had a wonderful few weeks, and sadly she will go home on Monday :(

So - the good news is that I will be able to get back to blogging and shouting for my zeros and all of the older children with less than $100 in their grants !!

 

In the mean time, I am also Family Warrior for the Sutton family who are in the process of adopting TWO children, "Gideon" and "Ebony" - you can find their adoption grant HERE, an their blog HERE ! 

 

Now - I will get my list updated next week - and that is a promise.

 

However, before then, I will be running/walking in a 5K Color Vibe run TOMORROW.

If you know me, you will know that I am NOT a runner, or a keep fit fanatic. I do not exercise. Ever.

I was actually planning on training for this event, so that I could actually run the whole 5K.

However, life got in the way (see above), and I'm pretty sure that I will not be able to run the whole race.

I will run as much as possible - and hopefully, my 11 year old son Nathaniel will be able to drag me along a little !!

 

If you would like to encourage me in my efforts (believe me, I need all the encouragement I can get !!), I would love if you could send a small (or large !) donation the way of the Sutton's, and help them get a little closer to bringing home their son and daughter.

"Just four months after returning home from Eastern Europe with their son, Benjamin (Mikale on RR), the Suttons discovered he had a younger brother at the same orphanage that they didn’t know even existed. They knew they had to go back for him as the brothers deserved to grow up together. It was a difficult decision at first because the timing was not in their plans and they had no chance to save up and prepare before beginning the process again. Once it had been confirmed, they submitted an official request to adopt Gideon. For some reason, the officials in EE could not find his file and so the Suttons waited for 4 months with no word or hope that it would be possible.

While they were waiting, they saw a picture of a little girl and knew she was supposed to be theirs. During their first adoption, they had hoped to adopt a little girl along with Benjamin, but were not able to find the one meant to be in their family. The decision of whether to commit to Ebony was a hard one because it put a tight timetable on how long it would be possible to wait for Gideon to be found. The Suttons decided to take the leap of faith and move forward, trusting that if Gideon was indeed supposed to be their son that God would work out all the details to make it happen before their time ran out to be able to add him. Just two weeks after committing to Ebony, Gideon’s file was found and the Suttons were able to commit to him as well!

Ebony and Gideon face a bleak future growing up as orphans in their home country. They both have been waiting for a family their whole lives and the Suttons cannot wait to bring them home to make them their daughter and son, and to reunite the brothers once again. They never expected to be going back so soon, but when you see your child’s face looking back at you, you realize there isn’t time to wait and prepare, you need to step out in faith and do whatever it takes to bring them home now.

See the least of these !!

As promised, here is the latest update of the older kids with less than $100 in their grants.

 

There has been some great movement - several children have moved up a category, some have made it over the $100 wall, and some have made it to My Family Found Me !!!  

I cannot wait to follow their journeys home !

However - there are now 10 newly listed children with a big, fat ZERO in their grants.

 

There are also 130 children (including those with $0) with less than $15 in their grants - the vast majority of them have less than $10.

 

I don't know about you, but that breaks my heart.

 

YES - it is wonderful that they have at least something in their grant, but it also means that after that one person donated to them to start their grant off, no-one else has seen them and deemed them worthy.

 

I know so many people donate so much to so many children - but can we concentrate on those with the least this week ?

 

Those with zero, or $5, or $10 in their grants ?

 

Can we help get them seen ?

 

Share their faces, their stories ?

 

Can we donate a little more to them ?
