Broken hearted.

I thought my heart was broken a couple of years ago when I discovered Reece's Rainbow, and found out about the plight of so many children around the world.

I challenge you to look at the photos below and not have YOUR heart broken.

These children live in orphanages and mental institutions in Eastern Europe.
They are all available for adoption - these photos were taken at the place they live, especially for the adoption database.
Did they make ANY effort to make the children look nice for the photos ?
Do they have ANY expectations that anyone would actually want to adopt them ?
Do you see the neglect ? The abuse ?
They didn't even try to hide it.
I cannot express how I feel about these pictures.
Or the people who took them. The people who "care" for these children.
How can we stand by and let this happen ????
See the last few pictures ?
See the bars ?
These kids are in CRIBS.
They LIVE in the cribs.
These children are teenagers.
Confined to cribs for life.
Abused, neglected, starved.
All because they were born with Down Syndrome.

IS your heart broken yet ??

Reece's Rainbow is an organisation that advocates and raises money for children with Down Syndrome and other special needs around the world.
Please, if you have a heart, go to their web site, have a look around, and see how you can help.
You cannot help them all.
None of us can.
But can you make a difference to just ONE ??

While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.
He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”
The old man smiled, and said, “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”
To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”
Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, “But, young man, do you not realise that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”
The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”

Heave, HO !!!! Over the wall they GO !!

OK, folks, it's time to get serious.
We have just 25 days until Halloween, which is our deadline for getting ALL 160 of the older children over the $100 wall.

So far I have focused on those with the least - the children with zero or next to zero. I realize that getting them over the wall isn't so easy. They have a long way to go, especially when we're taking baby steps.

So - today - we're going to look at those who are closest to the top of the wall - just a little nudge, and they'll be sailing over !!!!

Here are the little beauties who need the least help !!

Nick - I need $10

Maksim - I need $32.50

Fallon - I need $40

Linda - I need $24

Jenny & Jordan - We need $32

George - I need $$35

Tanner - I need $$39.40

Lauren - I need $28.40

Channah - I need $35

Theodore - I need $28

Gerard - I need $24.70

Eleven children who are oh so close to leaping that wall !!

Don't YOU want to be the one to help them do it ??

If you do - let me know, so I can enter you into the

Girls

God made the world with its towering trees,
majestic mountains and restless seas,
then paused and said, "It needs one more thing."
Someone to laugh and dance and sing,
to walk in the woods and gather flowers,
to commune with nature in quiet hours.
So God made little girls
with laughing eyes and bouncing curls,
with joyful hearts, and beautiful smiles,
enchanting ways and feminine wiles.
And when He'd completed the task He'd begun,
he was pleased and proud of the job He'd done.
For the world when seen through a little girl's eyes
greatly resembles paradise.  (Author Unknown)

These little girls are all dressed up, with their hair in the prettiest bows that could be found.
Dressed up to get their picture taken - the picture that might make the difference between life in an institute, or on the streets, or with a family.
These are the lucky girls - ones in orphanages who actually care enough about them to make them look pretty for their picture.
ALL of these girls need a family.
ALL of these girls need more money in their grants so their family can say YES.

Ana - $51

Ilyssa $50

June - $51.25

Jasmina - $25

Marina - $20

Layna - $60

Then, we have those girls who aren't so lucky.
We have to imagine what they might look like with long hair and hair bows.
Their hair is kept very short - or even shaved - to make it easier for the caregivers.

Tania $55.20

Angelia - $50

Annie - $51.50

Hope - $5

Ekaterina - $10

Lorraine - $31.50

Jessica - $7

Jeannette - $5

So many beautiful girls, all waiting for their mommies and daddies to find them.
All desperately in need of money to help those families when they DO find them.
Can you help ??
Donate to any of the girls above, and you will receive entries into the Toy Giveaway.
Donate to any of the girls above and help save their life.
Please, don't let them down.
