Matvey is such a cute little boy, with blonde curls! He is cognitively delayed, but does not seem to have any official diagnosis other than that. He has amazing potential!! He was transferred to another region in 2010.

Please give this little guy a chance to fulfill his potential! One of our own adoptive families who visited with him in March 2008 shared this with us: "This little guy did NOT want to be photographed! He was quite happy doing whatever he was doing before being brought into the room but having his picture taken was not high on his priority list. He has "deep mental delay" (understand that this is according to Eastern European standards — he was more aware and alert than a child with Down syndrome might be at the same age). I can't tell you his eye color because he down-right refused to look at me, but those blonde curls sure were cute!"

This picture breaks my heart - for I am sure that this little guy is absolutely gorgeous, but his mommy and daddy just haven't had a chance to see his smiling face yet. Maybe seeing his zero go away would put a smile on his face ??

Janna has a congential anomaly of the brain. Both pictures we have of her she is lying down — she desperately needs a family to rescue her. Once she is transferred, she will likely be left in bed for the rest of her days.

With a smile like that, you'd think she would have been adopted already - but sadly, she hasn't, and she is still a zero. Please help . Five children - 5 orphans - 5 zeros. How quickly can we change that ? How quickly can we get rid of those zeros ?? I've said it before and I'll say it again - it might seem like such a small thing, but I just know that once we get rid of those zeros, these kids will have a much greater chance of being adopted. Baby steps...we CAN do it !!

Since my last post, there are now FIFTEEN less zeros !! Fifteen children now have a little something in their grant - it may not be much, but it's a start !!! ALL these kids are worth more than zero; and I like to think that prospective parents might take a second look, when they see that someone out there thought to donate to that particular child. Just a few dollars might make the difference for any one of those children -and I want them ALL to have a chance.

The best thing ? TWO of the little boys previously listed, with zero in their grants - have found families !!! Andrew and Will now have a family here in the USA, who are going through the process to bring their boys home - despite their zero !!! Meanwhile - there are still 114 children with nothing in their grants. 114 beautiful children - all aged 6-9 years old, all orphans solely because they were born with a difference. All destined to spend their lives in mental institutions, or even to live - and die - on the streets when they age out of their orphanage. All of them DO have a chance of a life with a loving family - all they need is a mommy or daddy to see their photo and fall in love - and a little help from family, friends and total strangers, to raise the thousands and thousands of dollars needed to bring them home. These boys are all age between the ages of 6 - 10 - and they all have zero in their individual grants - which, in all probability, means they have zero chance of being adopted. Names

On Reece's Rainbow (RR), in order to comply with the laws of the countries the children live in, and to preserve privacy, the children are given "new" names. Their RR names are used just to identify them on the web site - once a family commits to adoption, they find out their child's real name - and can choose whether to keep that name or give them a new name once they are adopted. The following is a list of names - each name represents one child, aged between the ages of 6 and 9, who is listed on RR, who has ZERO in their adoption grant. Each name is a child, just like any other child, who needs a family to love. Please read each name - maybe a child shares your name, or your child's name, your siblings name, your spouse's name - the name of someone you have loved, or known. If you can't pick out a child to donate to by looking at their pictures - it is, after all, pretty overwhelming seeing all of those adorable faces - just pick a name, and then go and find that child's profile, and help get rid of their zero. They need you - all of them - but while you can't save them all, you CAN help save just ONE - all it takes is a few dollars to get their grant started, and who knows what might happen next !!

Christmas wishes

Yes, I know it's only September 25th - but that means it is only 3 months until Christmas !! Three months isn't very long when you live in a home surrounded by family, with enough food, with warmth, with love. Can you imagine how long 3 months seems to a child living in an orphanage in Eastern Europe, with no love, little warmth, and barely enough food to survive on ? Those who know me know that for the past year I have been following many adoption stories - stories of the lucky children who have been rescued, and are now living in the USA, with their new forever families. I also frequent the pages of Reece's Rainbow , and see the faces of hundreds of children, who, through no fault of their own, are destined to live in orphanages for life. Unless they can be rescued - adopted by families who see through their diagnosis, and see the child that is longing to be loved. The children with Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, arthrogryposis, HIV, and any number of other "conditions" that deem them unworthy in their country of birth.

For those new to the world of international special needs adoption, the mission of Reece's Rainbow is to raise awareness for all the children with Down Syndrome and other special needs, in 25 countries, and to raise funds as adoption grants that help adoptive families afford the HUGE cost of adoption. Each child under the age of 10 listed on Reece's Rainbow has an individual grant - the more money they have, the greater their chance of adoption. It's a sad fact that the only barrier between these children and a happy life is money - sad, but true. Most people CAN afford to take care of a child on a day to day basis, providing them with food, shelter, schooling, therapy - LOVE. Unfortunately, most people don't have $30,000 lying around to pay for an adoption. In the world of adoption, money DOES buy happiness - and life.

Until very recently, children listed on Reece's Rainbow who were aged 6 or older had a collective grant - all money donated to these older children was pooled, and the first child adopted received the grant money - which was then set to zero. Since September 1st, that has changed - so all those older kids, aged 6 - 9 years, now have their own grants ! Unfortunately, the majority of them have ZERO in their grants. My Christmas wish ? To see that every single 6-9 year old listed on Reece's Rainbow has a little something in their grant - I want us to zero those zeros !!
