Pick a child !!

For those of you unfamiliar with the goal of this blog - it's pretty simple, really.

There are currently 164 TOO MANY older children (aged 6+) available for adoption listed on the Reece's Rainbow web site who have LESS than $100 in their adoption grants.

Our goal is to make sure that NO child has zero in their grants - as well as trying to get ALL of the children up to at least $100 in their grants.

This is an ongoing campaign, as new children are listed on a regular basis, and all children start with zero in their grants.

I have split the children into different groups, so as their grants grow, they can move up - within their own category, as well as up into a new category !!

As you look at the list, you will see that many children have had donations to their grants since this list was compiled on January 26th this year. However - SO many children have had nothing donated to them - and far too many of them haven't had a donation in months.

 Look at all of the RED names - the children who now have more than $100 in their grants.  There are even four NINE 12 14 !! children who have been found by their forever families - now THAT is where we want to see them all, of course ! 
 Now look below, at all the names - click on the names to see the profile and, in most cases, a photo of the child.
Each child is in need of a family.
Each child is in need of love.
Each child is in need of YOU to help them.
Some are SO close to leaping that $100 wall !!
Many are languishing in the middle, ignored as always.
SO many are on the bottom rung, waiting for their chance to climb.

What I would REALLY like to see is that EVERY child has been noticed.
I would LOVE to see that every child has had a donation.
It doesn't matter how big or small - seeing a child get a donation means that someone, somewhere, has seen them.
Has seen their worth.
Has looked into their eyes
Someone has declared that they CARE.
What more can I ask for ?

Well, the title of this post says it all - I want money, and I want it now !!   Actually, to be more exact, I want YOUR money sent to ME, but it's not FOR me, of course.  I am so hoping to be able to send a whole bunch of money to Reece's Rainbow on or around my birthday, but I'm counting on YOU to make that possible.   If you have absolutely no clue what I am talking about, read THIS post.

So many children

 

OK, I know I'm not the best blogger in the world, but I do keep trying.  I  update the list of the older children with less than $100 every few days - you can find the updated post HERE. It's looking great - THREE children have been found, and have families working to bring them home !!  TEN of the children now have more than $100. Many of the children have had donations, big and small !!  In the grand scheme of things, these many not be mind blowing changes, but every little dollar DOES make a difference !! PLUS - there are STILL no zeroes !! We've been managing to zap them as soon as they appear, which is just wonderful !!

 

If you read my previous post - HERE - you will know that I am trying to use my upcoming 50th birthday to raise money for the older children.  I have had a few people sign up, but could really use lots more !!

 

It's easy - all you need to do is write a check for $10, pop it into an envelope, and mail it to me.  Do that 5 times, over 5 months, and by the time my birthday rolls round at the end of June, you will have donated $50 !!

MY birthday gift will be to send the checks to Reece's Rainbow, and choose which older children get to benefit !  I am hoping to help many many children, but I need YOUR help !!  Please let me know if you want to join in the fun !! Talking of reminders - here are some of the faces of the older kids I'm trying to help.  Getting dollars into their adoption grants raises the possibility of them being adopted. $50 for my 50th !!

Yes, despite my best efforts at denial, I will be turning the big 5-0 on June 30th this year.  It's weird - I don't FEEL like I should be 50, so how can I possibly be ?  There is definitely something wrong somewhere !!

 

We were planning on heading back to Disney World this year, and that was going to be my big birthday celebration. However, we decided to put that off for another year, for one reason or another. SO - what to do for my birthday ?

 

I don't NEED anything, so no reason to ask for extravagant gifts.

 

I'm really not a big fan of parties - those years are long past !

 

We already decided against the big vacation.

 

So what to do ?

 

Well, after thinking for a few seconds, I came up with what I thought was a monumentally brilliant idea !!

 

A fundraiser for the older kids, in celebration of my 50 years !!

 

 

 

I'm turning 50, so let's think about $50

 

If I ask people to pledge $50, that seems a bit much

 

BUT

 

How long until my birthday ? 

 

We need to finish with February, then we have March, April, May and June.

 

FIVE months.

 

$50 divided by 5 = $10 per month

 

Now THAT is doable by most people I know !!

 

 

 

So - this is how it will work.

 

YOU pledge $10 per month

 

 During the last week of each of the months of February, March, April, May and June, you write a check for $10 (written to Reece's Rainbow), and mail it to me.

I'll even send out a reminder each month !

 

On my birthday, I gather all of the checks that have been sent to me over the past 5 months, and get to choose which of the older children to donate them to.

 

I just can't imagine a better gift than that !!!!

I'm not going to set a fundraising goal - that's far too scary.

Most of the children with between $50 and $100 have been listed for as long as I have been doing this.  I have looked through the listings on Reece's Rainbow countless times, hoping to be able to update their grants. 

 

Over and over and over again.

 

First, we zeroed their zeros.

 

Then we dragged them up to $20.

 

Then $50.

 

Now - we're trying to get them up to $100.

 

Really, it's not much to ask, is it ?

 

It seems that I am banging my head against the wall half the time.

 

Truly - I want to give up on a regular basis.

 

I try not to look at their faces.

 

I try to ignore them.

 

Not MY problem.

 

Can't save them all.

 

What's the point ?

 

They'll never be adopted.

 

They'll age out, and spend their lives in a mental institution.

 

Or age out onto the streets.

 

Our lives will go on as before.

 

Still not our problem.

 

Then - we get new kids listed.

 

New kids with ZERO.

 

So, we have to help them out.

 

ZEROS - GONE !!!

 

Yet still - these kids.

 

Still there.

 

Still waiting.

 

Still not being seen - passed over so many times.

 

Some kids, you see their grants grow - slowly but surely.

 

Some kids have fast growing grants - they get listed, and then bam - money floods in, and before you know it, they are found.

 

Orphans no more.

 

Not these kids.

 

A handful of them - yes, fairly newly listed.

 

Most of them - ignored. Unloved. Unseen.

 

Breaks my heart every time.

 

Several times a week.
