Sorry it has been so long since I blogged !! I actually did an update a week or so again, but then totally forgot to publish it - oops !
There are SO many newly listed children - which, sadly, also means there are far too many children with zero now - it almost makes updating the list too overwhelming - adding more zeros to the long long list that is already there. I realize that there are many needs, so many families in the midst of adoption fundraising, so many children at risk of aging out, so many children with a greater need, seemingly, than others. We all have our "favorites", I know - and that is what makes the Reece's Rainbow advocates so wonderful. Some focus on one particular child, some focus on older children at risk of aging out, some focus on a particular special need, some focus on families.
I know some may think that zeroing zeros isn't a big deal - and I get that.
However - to ME - it IS a big deal.
Seeing a big fat zero next to a child's name drives me absolutely crazy.
Why ?
What's the difference between a child having just $5 in their grant, and a child having zero ?
I'll tell you what the difference is.
$5 in a grant means that someone, somewhere, SAW that child.
Someone took the time to look at the child's picture.
Someone read that child's profile.
Someone cared enough to click on that donate button.
Someone CARED.
Someone cared about a child that, just possibly, no-one has cared about for many many years.
Chances are, the last time anyone cared about the child was when they were born.
Even though these children were left in hospitals or orphanages by their parents, I'm pretty sure that the parents did that because they CARED.
They knew that in their society, their child would be shunned.
They knew they would have no hope of a normal life, no hope of receiving an education, or therapies, or being treated as a human being.
They cared.
They cared enough to leave their child, with the belief that the child would be better off in the orphanage.
Maybe with the hope that their child would be adopted, and given a chance.
Then - they are listed, and we see new faces on Reece's Rainbow.
Faces of children who have been waiting for so long.
Children who have never known love.
Children who need a family.
Children with zero in their grant.
